Freecreditreport.com Has Received My Lawsuit
Consumerinfo.com (the Experian subsidiary that owns and operates Freecreditreport.com) has received my lawsuit, and I've discussed the case preliminarily with them.
Their records show that I visited their site in 09/03 and that my card was charged 10/03. This is incorrect - I visited their site and my card was charged on the same day - 11/03/03.
I'm waiting to hear back from them after they reinvestigate the dates of the credit card charge. I'm confident that they'll resolve this amicably with me, as their attorney made it quite clear they don't want to litigate this.
Has anyone else gone to these lengths against Consumerinfo? The attorney claimed I'm the first...

I too found That $11.95 was automatically being deducted from my bank account by freecreditreport.com. I called them and was told that by using their free service I was signed up for their monthly credit report monitoring program. I told them that I never signed up for this service. The rep. explained to me that I didn't cancel this 30 day free trial so therefore I was charged. I told them I didn't think this was very ethical. I was told my account would canceled immediately, but no refund would be given. The only reason I was stupid enough to give my cc# was because of a dispute on my credit report, which has since been resolved. I have just file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I requested a full refund and a judgment on whether this practice should be able to continue.

I too paid $11.95 for "monthly monitoring", however, I also chose the "3 Credit Reports" for $24.95. But when I recieved my credit card statement, I was billed $36.90!!!!!!It was supposed to be $24.95 for all three reports. They tried to bill me the extra $11.95!! I since cancelled.

I am so GLAD I found this site because I, too, have been ripped off by freecreditreport.com. Those cheesy commercials made me worry that perhaps someone was draining my credit score, so I went to find out. Little did I know that it would be the ones promising me protection that would dupe me in the end. So I signed up, fully knowing that I would be charged 14.95 if I failed to cancel. After discovering that it is much harder to cancel than it is to sign up because there is no way to cancel online and the customer "service" line is only open Monday-Friday 9-5, I made sure to call in during business hours. I spoke with a woman who seemed very helpful, although she didn't speak very fluent English. When I wouldn't give her my SS# over the phone, she said it was all right because she could access the account another way. I told her I just wanted to cancel and (I thought)she said it would be taken care of. I wasn't convinced, because it was too easy, and sure enough, EXACTLY 30 days later there was a charge on my credit card. I called the company, enraged, and they insisted that they had no record of my account being accessed since my sign-up, much less canceled. The operator was very firm that they do not offer refunds. Of course not. Probably, my account WAS never accessed. The woman on the phone just told me what I wanted to hear. Too bad I wasn't savvy enough to ask for a confirmation number. I'm 19, but I have very good control over my credit spending. When I called back demanding to know why I had been charged, they told me that they could not speak with my mother about the situation, even though I gave them permission. My mom is well, my mom, but she's also a CPA. She knew better than to buy that. After ripping the guy a new one for lying to her both about me never calling and her not being able to represent me, he directed us to his supervisor who was even less helpful. After arguing with him about whether I really canceled previously, he said he had canceled the account this time, and that I should receive and e-mail confirming the cancellation within two hours. My mother asked him for a confirmation number this time, and he reluctantly gave one up. He certainly didn't offer it, though. I called my bank and told them the charge was fraudulent. At least now I have some other stories to back me up. A whole day later, I still have no e-mail from freecreditreport.com, except for one from the monitoring service saying my credit score has been accessed by an outside agency. (And I'm hoping it was a legit inquiry) Clearly, I was not canceled; but I'm holding the confirmation number until next month so when there's another 14.95 missing from my credit account I can really get them for it. In conclusion, don't fall for the cutesy freecreditreport.com jingles, or you really will have something to worry about.

I would like to know if anything is happening with freecreditreport.com. They have ripped me off for 15 months. I got 4 months refunded and had to cancel my credit card so they wouldn't be able to charge me anymore. HELP!!! I would like to be a part of some kind of law suit. I don't even really care if I get any money back - I would just like to make their life miserable and waste their time and money just like they did to me.

I just contacted lawyers in Irvine, CA about the same Bait-and-switch action of them, before seeing your post, after no success with the BBB. It's a shame to see so many people getting "had" by them.

Yeah, I canceled the same day I signed up, and after the csr spouted promotions and yada yada with lightning speed she said it was cancelled. And then I find the 12.95 charge a month later.

Having just dove into what seems to be an endless struggle with a pathetic company, I am inordinately pissed off. I wish I had researched a bit more before getting scammed by this annoying company but for now I have to wait patiently for the lines to open up so that I can ATTEMPT to cancel my trial. I have no doubt that I will get screwed in the end and if anyone has any information on how to get back at this company, please email me at spidii@hotmail.com, thanks a lot and I am sorry for the rest of you as well :(
